Accounting
We develop and maintain the budget of the Sheriff's Office which is usually about $7,000,000.00. We are responsible for payment of all expenditures of the office ranging from Payroll to general office supplies.
Property Taxes
We are responsible for printing and mailing tax notices, collecting and properly posting all taxes paid and holding an annual property tax sale in the spring. We collect redemptiom payments and file the deeds for eligible property owners whose property has been sold in a tax sale. We distribute the funds from this account on a monthly basis to each of the taxing bodies.
Occupational & Liquor License
We are responsible for collecting occupational and liquor license fees; renewals and new applicants. We issue the license the business owner will post in their business after approval and proper payment of the fees. These funds are distributed on a monthly basis.
Criminal Fines & Cost
We collect fines and cost assessed in the 4th Distrcit Court/ Morehouse for criminal cases. We also collect fines & cost assessed for traffic tickets and other types of tickets that the individual wishes to pay out of court. We collect restitution assessed in criminal cases also. These funds are distributed on a monthly basis.
Civil Services, Garnishments & Seizures
We are responsible for serving civil papaers directed by the 4th District Court and outside courts. We also execute writs and other orders directed by the court. This is usually the process by which we seize property as directed by the court. We are also responsible for holding Sheriff's Slaes as directed by the courts. These are held almost every Wednesday of each week. The funds collected are distributed on a mothly basis.
